Lemon Infused All Natural Energy Drink

I admit.  I drink soda. But not often; usually for a caffeine fix.  And while I do drink an herbal tea now and then in the winter, I’m not much of a “summer” tea person.   I have heard about yerba mate’ tea a few years ago and its natural uplifting properties.  And green tea has been all over the place for several years now boasting health benefits too.  But neither seem desirable to me. Until I saw a recipe using both teas in an all-natural energy drink in the August 2013 issue of Eating Well magazine.  Maybe it was … Continue reading

Not Your Mama’s Chocolate Shake

This chocolaty beverage is no ordinary chocolate milk (or shake, since it is thick)!  It is hiding some power house nutrients. It would make a great after school snack for kids.   And parents will like it just as much!  After all, we need these nutrients too!   So what is hiding in this chocolate milk beverage?  Butternut squash!  After using squash in my apple pie smoothie, and liking the results, I wanted to try it another way.  As it turns out, squash works wonderfully with chocolate! Butternut squash is low in fat and high in fiber with lots of potassium, … Continue reading

Apple Pie Surprise Smoothie

What if I told you that you could have apple pie for breakfast?  And not feel guilty about it?  Or for lunch or a midafternoon snack?   Well, you can, sort of.  See, this smoothie tastes like apple pie.  But it is simply fruit and surprisingly….a vegetable.  No added sugar, no dairy products.  No guilt smoothie.  At least for me.   If you read my Savory Butternut Squash Soup post, you will remember I promised a delicious way to use any leftover squash you may have.  Well, now I deliver.  Yes, the surprising vegetable of choice in this smoothie is squash!  … Continue reading

Berry Cherry Slush

Here is a festive beverage for the holiday season.  Actually this would work for any occasion, any season.  But given its red color, it seems to be suited for Christmas.   This beverage is easy to put together and can be made in advance freeing up the days closer to your celebration for the other foods on your to make list.  An added bonus is that it uses no added sugar with the exception of the soda you use, unless of course you decide to use diet soda. This drink is chuck full of berries and cherries therefore you can get … Continue reading

A Milk Free Hot Chocolate Mix—Product Review

Finding a milk free hot chocolate mix is nearly impossible!  I have been looking for two plus years. I stumbled upon this quite by accident and thought I would share it with you so you do not have to visit store upon store only to get disappointed when you cannot find a milk free hot cocoa mix.  I found this Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix by Archer Farms at Target.  I am not trying to endorse Target or this brand, and I am not getting compensated for it either.  It is simply the only mix I have found to be milk free.  … Continue reading

Pineapple Peach Smoothie

Since smoothies are big hit around my house I thought it would be time to share another one.  This one is so yummy you will want to guzzle it.    It’s creamy, thick, delicious and best of all, it is milk free! And even better, it has spinach in it.  What a better way to get that great leafy green in your diet than through a smoothie!  I have already written about the benefits of spinach.  You can read about that here. What’s so great about this smoothie is that you do not have to wait until these fruits are in … Continue reading

Banana Nectarine Smoothie

I never made or drank smoothies in my dairy indulging days.  Now they are a staple in my diet.  A good friend of mine introduced me to smoothies without milk products and I remember thinking that was unusual.  I had just assumed that smoothies had to have yogurt or milk.  But lo and behold…they do not need milk and yogurt and they can still be thick and creamy and maybe even dreamy.  I have been hooked ever since. Smoothies make great breakfasts, snacks or a side with your lunch.  You can dump in just about any fruit combination and they will … Continue reading
