For this Fun Finds Friday I’m talking about a fun local find, how you could find it too, and why you should! For years now, while living in suburbia, I have driven past a house that is set back from the road and an older two story farm looking house with a lot of cars and trucks parked in back. Placed behind a strip mall with no homes on either side, and much older and different style than the surrounding homes, I was never quite sure what to think of it. I have seen a little sign hanging from the … Continue reading
I am fascinated with the story of Jordan Rubin. He is a book author, and the founder of Garden of Life; a whole line of vitamins, supplements, protein shakes, and so much more. In fact, he is raising grass fed beef now too. I do not use any of his products or beef, but I follow his company and story with interest. His story is nothing short of miraculous. He basically cured himself of a terrible case of Chrons disease that had him on death’s door. Anyway, there is a little shop I frequent that was handing out free copies … Continue reading
Avocados. Nature’s creamy fruit. Have you heard that? I never had an avocado until I gave up milk. And boy was I missing something! Everyone should be enjoying this fruit. I started out eating it as guacamole and loved it so much I made it nearly weekly at first. But I have since tapered off. I guess there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. But here is a super cool way to eat avocado; in a creamy, mousse like dessert. It is rich, chocolately and filling. It will satisfy your sweet tooth or your chocolate … Continue reading
Pineapples have been on sale lately. I never used to buy them whole because cutting one up seemed daunting. But I have been buying fresh pineapples (only when on sale) for about two years now. Here are some pictures on how to cut a pineapple. It’s that simple. Buy fresh pineapple and you will never go back to canned!
Since smoothies are big hit around my house I thought it would be time to share another one. This one is so yummy you will want to guzzle it. It’s creamy, thick, delicious and best of all, it is milk free! And even better, it has spinach in it. What a better way to get that great leafy green in your diet than through a smoothie! I have already written about the benefits of spinach. You can read about that here. What’s so great about this smoothie is that you do not have to wait until these fruits are in … Continue reading
I never made or drank smoothies in my dairy indulging days. Now they are a staple in my diet. A good friend of mine introduced me to smoothies without milk products and I remember thinking that was unusual. I had just assumed that smoothies had to have yogurt or milk. But lo and behold…they do not need milk and yogurt and they can still be thick and creamy and maybe even dreamy. I have been hooked ever since. Smoothies make great breakfasts, snacks or a side with your lunch. You can dump in just about any fruit combination and they will … Continue reading
I know that for many people, when they hear “spinach” they think either “yuck” or “Popeye,” and “makes you strong.” Well, if you are eating canned or frozen spinach I can see where the “yuck” might factor in. But by buying fresh spinach you can toss that excuse out the window. And let’s clear up the whole Popeye thing. Yes, spinach is good for you which we’ll get to in a little bit. But I think the whole “Popeye/strong” thing probably started with folklore as I found out when I did a little research. You see, it is often thought that spinach … Continue reading
