Water is the best way to stay hydrated. After all, the human body is comprised of almost 60% water. But don’t reach for those sports drinks or flavored water beverages just yet.
I’ve been “playing” with my water lately and have come up with several ways to flavor my water naturally without artificial colors and flavors.
This list is in order of least favorite to most favorite.
Essential Oil Peppermint Water: Fill a large glass with water and add one drop of essential oil of peppermint. Adding more than one and you will sting your lips. If you let the glass rest for a while, you may need to stir before drinking again.
Essential Oil Lemon Water: Fill a large glass with water and add one to two drops of essential oil of lemon. If you let the glass rest awhile you may have to stir before drinking.
Lime Water: Slice a lime and place in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into glass when you want to have a drink. Limes seem to get more potent as they sit, so I only like this for one to two days.
Orange Water: Slice an orange and place in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into a glass when you want to have a drink.
Cantaloupe Water: Place about one cup cubed cantaloupe in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into glass when you want to have a drink.
Lemon Water: Slice lemon and place in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into a glass when you want to have a drink. One lemon will work for at least two pitchers of water.
Meyer Lemon Water: If you can get your hands on a Meyer lemon buy it! They are sweeter than regular lemons. Slice the lemon and place in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into a glass when you want to have a drink. One Meyer lemon will work for at least two pitchers of water.
Cucumber Water: This is my favorite flavored water. Cut one half of cucumber into slices and place in a two quart pitcher. Fill with water and refrigerate. Let the water sit for several hours to gain flavor. Then pour water into a glass when you want to have a drink. One half of a cucumber will work for at least two pitchers of water.
