Cute or creepy? Whatever you think of this apple “teeth” snack, they will be a hit with your children. And maybe even the kid at heart of yourself or someone else.
Simple to prepare, this snack will go over well. And it is always a good idea to have a healthy snack midafternoon or as an after school snack.
Not only does the apple provide you with great fiber and vitamins, the sunflower seed butter or peanut butter will give you just enough protein to carry you through until supper time. Now the marshmallows do not have any nutritional value, but if they are what will get your kid to eat the apple slices, I say, by all means give them the marshmallows.
If you read my review here, you will already know that Curious George is a big hit at my house. And that is where the idea for this snack came. In a book about the curious little monkey making apple cider, the back page had a drawing of this snack. I just had to assemble it and take a picture.
When making your apple wedges, make sure they are “flat” sided and not slanted. In other words, the wedge should be the same thickness from front to back. Then spread your sunflower seed butter or peanut butter on the bottom wedge. Stand the marshmallows upright on the bottom wedge. Then spread the butter of your choice on the bottom side of the top wedge, and place on top of the marshmallows.
You can make these in advance by dipping the apple wedges in lemon juice and letting dry a bit before assembling to prevent browning.
The curious little monkey at my house wants to know what you think of this. If you like it, post it to Twitter, Facebook or on Pinterest using the buttons below the recipe box. Also, feel free to leave a comment here.
